Zonal TDS Return

Tax Glossary Definition

Zonal TDS Return

Zonal TDS Return – A Zonal TDS Return refers to the filing of Tax Deducted at Source (TDS) returns by taxpayers within the jurisdiction of a specific zonal office of the Income Tax Department. These returns provide details of tax deducted, deposited, and reported to ensure compliance with TDS provisions under the Income Tax Act. Zonal offices monitor these filings to identify discrepancies, enforce compliance, and maintain accurate records. TDS returns can be filed: Quarterly – e.g., Form 26Q for TDS on salaries and non-salary payments. Monthly – for certain payments or by special categories of deductors, as mandated. Example: An employer in the Delhi zone deducts TDS on salaries and contractor payments. The employer files Form 26Q quarterly, reporting the TDS deducted and deposited for that quarter to the zonal IT office.
