Tax Residency Certificate (TRC)

A formal document issued by the tax authority of a foreign or domestic jurisdiction to confirm the tax residency status of an individual or entity. It is a prerequisite for availing benefits under the Double Taxation Avoidance Agreement (DTAA) and helps prevent taxation of the same income in two countries.

Example: An NRI presents a TRC issued by the US tax authority to obtain lower TDS rates on Indian income under the India–US DTAA.
