Resident

Tax Glossary Definition

Resident

A resident taxpayer is an individual who becomes liable to pay tax in a particular jurisdiction based on criteria such as domicile, residence, place of management, or similar connections. Residency determines the scope of income subject to taxation — whether global or only domestic income.

Example: An Indian citizen who resides in India for more than 182 days in a financial year is treated as a resident taxpayer and is taxed on income earned both in India and abroad.
