NABARD, or the National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development, is India’s apex institution dedicated to supporting development activities in rural areas. Set up in 1982, it assists farmers, rural enterprises, and the financial institutions that serve them. It refinances banks that provide agricultural and rural credit, strengthens cooperative and regional rural banks, and conducts capacity-building programs for communities. NABARD also supports projects in areas such as watershed management, microfinance, green energy, and agro-processing.
