Goods and Services Tax Identification Number (GSTIN)

Goods and Services Tax Identification Number (GSTIN) – The Goods and Services Tax Identification Number (GSTIN) is a unique 15-digit identification number assigned to every taxpayer registered under the Goods and Services Tax (GST) system in India. It helps the government track GST payments, compliance, and business transactions across the country. The GSTIN structure includes the state code, PAN of the taxpayer, and a unique entity number, ensuring transparency and traceability in tax administration. Businesses with turnover exceeding the specified threshold must obtain GST registration and display the GSTIN on invoices and official documents.

Example: A company registered in Maharashtra with PAN ABCDE1234F might have the GSTIN 27ABCDE1234F1Z5, where “27” denotes the state code for Maharashtra.
