Tax Glossary Definition
Form 26AS – Form 26AS is a consolidated annual tax statement issued by the Income Tax Department that provides details of taxes deducted at source (TDS), tax collected at source (TCS), advance tax, and self-assessment tax paid by a taxpayer during a Financial Year. It also reflects details of refunds credited and high-value transactions reported to the tax authorities. Form 26AS serves as a key document for verifying that the tax deducted or paid has been correctly credited to the taxpayer’s account and is used while filing Income Tax Returns (ITR). The Assessment Year (AY) is the year in which the income earned in the previous Financial Year (FY) is evaluated and taxed.
Example: Form 26AS for FY 2022–23 will show all TDS, TCS, and tax payments for that period, and it will be used for filing taxes in AY 2023–24
