Donation

Tax Glossary Definition

Donation

A donation is a voluntary contribution given to a charitable organization, trust, or institution for social, educational, medical, or other approved public welfare purposes. In India, certain donations qualify for tax deductions under Section 80G of the Income Tax Act, meaning you can reduce your taxable income based on the eligible donation amount. However, not all donations are fully deductible — the deduction amount can be 50% or 100%, and some are subject to restrictions (like a limit of 10% of Adjusted Gross Total Income).

Example: If you donate ₹5,000 to CRY India, you can claim a tax deduction for this donation while filing your Income Tax Return, subject to Section 80G eligibility and limits.
