Cross-Verification

Tax Glossary Definition

Cross-Verification

Cross-verification is the process of comparing the information provided by a taxpayer in their return with data received from third parties, such as banks, employers, or other institutions. This ensures accuracy, consistency, and compliance in tax reporting.

Example: The Income Tax Department cross-verifies a taxpayer’s ITR with their Annual Information Statement (AIS) and Form 26AS to confirm that income and TDS details match.
