Central Government

The Central Government is the supreme authority responsible for administering and collecting income tax in India through the Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) under the Ministry of Finance. It oversees policy formulation, enforcement, and allocation of tax revenues to the national exchequer.

Example: All direct taxes, such as income tax and corporate tax, are collected by the Central Government and credited to the Consolidated Fund of India.
