Tax Glossary Definition
Bear Hug – A strategy in mergers and acquisitions where a company presents an exceptionally generous offer to purchase another firm, often at a significant premium over its market value. The goal is to pressure the target’s management or shareholders into accepting the proposal, as rejecting such an attractive bid could appear unreasonable to investors.
Example: A large corporation offering a much higher-than-market price to acquire a smaller competitor in order to compel its board to negotiate.
