Assumption of jurisdiction refers to a legal authority or court taking control over a case or matter within its specified jurisdiction, typically to make decisions and rulings on legal issues within its purview. It involves the acknowledgment and exercise of authority by the relevant legal body.

 

Example: An Income Tax Officer assumes jurisdiction over a taxpayer’s case after issuing a valid notice under Section 143(2) of the Income Tax Act.
