Tax Glossary Definition

Aadhaar

Aadhaar, a 12-digit unique identification number issued by the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI), is provided to every resident of India. Serving as a valid proof of identity and address, Aadhaar facilitates access to a wide range of government and non-government services, including banking, telecommunications, education, healthcare, and more. The system is intricately linked to a biometric database that securely stores the fingerprints and iris scans of the enrolled individuals.

Example: Aadhaar used for e-verification of income tax return or KYC in bank account opening.
